Colony, the latest infected horror film from Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho, gave us two very different reactions.
Amy went in excited but found the movie repetitive and eventually checked out. William agreed that the 122-minute runtime could have been tighter, but the evolving infected and hive-mind concept were enough to keep him invested.
We discuss the grotesque infected, the characters we struggled to connect with, one character we desperately wanted everyone to stop saving, and whether Colony does enough differently to stand out from other infected horror movies.

Insidious: Out of the Further takes the franchise somewhere darker, and after six movies, this one actually managed to disturb both of us.
Amy found this entry heavier than the previous films and there were several scenes she simply refused to watch, including one that left her genuinely nauseated. William could handle watching it, but even he admits this movie got under his skin in a way the other Insidious films usually haven't.

Insidious: The Last Key may be the least scary entry in the franchise so far, but does trading some of those relentless scares for a stronger story actually make it worse?
We’re halfway through Further into the Further, and this time William and Amy find a very different kind of Insidious movie. Elise moves firmly to the center of the story as the franchise digs into her childhood, her abilities, and a threat where the line between supernatural horror and very human evil starts to blur.
Amy says she could finally breathe a little more during this one although “less scary” still somehow meant multiple jumps and a few screams. We also get into why KeyFace may have one of the coolest designs in the series without being its scariest villain, why Lin Shaye continues to make these prequels work, and whether a stronger mystery can make up for dialing back the scares.

Insidious: Chapter 2 picks up right where the first movie left off, and Amy was apparently wrong to expect the sequel to give her a break.
Sequels often soften the scares or repeat what worked the first time, but this one still hit hard enough that Amy needed a weighted blanket, shut the bedroom door, and then immediately became afraid the door was going to open by itself. William thinks she may have actually screamed more during Chapter 2 than she did during the original.
We talk about why Patrick Wilson gets even more to do this time around, the creepy old houses and abandoned hospital that Amy wants absolutely nothing to do with, and why apparently any house that isn’t open concept is haunted.
Then, after our ratings, we head into spoilers to dig into one of our favorite things about Insidious: Chapter 2: the way it reaches backward and changes how you see moments from the first film. We also get into the Black Veil, the Further, the red door, and where the franchise appears to be taking us next.
